I have 2 great articles to share today:
First, I wish all managers and executives thought like David Goldberg, CEO at SurveyMonkey. In his LinkedIn Influencer post, “Flex Your Creativity in Hiring,” he states “Too often we focus on titles, compensation and perks to attract great people. I have learned that giving talented men and women flexibility and trusting them to excel has been key to hiring and retaining a great team.” My own experience has verified this view. I have found that when I give team members the flexibility and trust to get their jobs done, I get their best work.
Second, I loved this blog on WSJ about Amazon’s patent on ‘speculative shipping.’ Essentially, they plan to ship things to you before you even think to order them. Imagine the applications for talent acquisition — with enough data on potential candidate behavior, we could send them a job opening that is perfect before they even thought to look for one.
